How do I create a new circle?

Creating a circle is simple:

  1. Tap the "+" button on your Circles screen
  2. Choose "Create New Circle"
  3. Name your circle (e.g., "Family," "Work Friends")
  4. Set location sharing preferences (precise or approximate)
  5. Invite friends to join your circle

You can create as many circles as you want for different groups.

How do I control who sees my location?

Nearsy gives you full control over your location privacy:

  • Set location sharing preferences individually for each circle
  • Choose between precise location (exactly where you are) or approximate location (within 100 meters)
  • Use "Stealth Mode" to temporarily stop sharing your location with all circles
  • Completely leave a circle when you no longer want to share location with that group

Your location is never shared with people who aren't in your circles.

Why does Nearsy need background location access?

Nearsy requires background location access to:

  • Keep your location updated in the background when you're not actively using the app
  • Send notifications when friends arrive at or leave specific locations
  • Maintain location sharing with your circles without needing to have the app open

We use several power-saving techniques to minimize battery impact:

  • Smart location updating that reduces frequency when you're not moving
